Ogun police kill 24 robbery suspects, arrest 150

The Police in Ogun State on Wednesday said they killed no fewer than 24 armed robbery suspects during gun battles and arrested 150 others in the state in the last six months.
The command also said it recovered 74 arms and 557 rounds of ammunition as well as property worth N55,392,400 from the crime suspects within the same period.
It added that 27 cultists, three rape suspects were also arrested and 131 vehicles recovered, while 319 crime suspects were charged to court, as 23 of them were convicted between January and June this year.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, who stated these while addressing newsmen on the scorecard of his command in the last six months, said one of the robbery suspects included an alleged gunrunner, Sikiru Oyebanji, who usually brought in arms for his 10-man gang from the Republic of Benin.
Okoye added that 35-year-old James Ogbu was also arrested in connection with the alleged murder of 12-year-old female pap hawker, Akpakou Josephine, who was abducted in Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
The police boss said the victim, who was from the Republic of Benin, was reported missing while hawking pap but upon further inquiry, it was discovered that the girl was last seen riding on a motorcycle with Ogbu.
He stated that when detectives swung into action, they found the corpse of the missing girl in a bush around Wasimi market.
The Police boss also said one Afeez Sulaimon, a member of a Vigilance group in Loburo community was arrested for the alleged killing of a villager, Mr. Dada Jimoh, who was shot on the forehead.
Also, one Sholarin Solomon, suspected to be a student cultist, was arrested for robbing other students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
