TOWN PLANNERS REGISTRATION COUNCIL OF NIGERIA
1. FULL REGISTRATION
An applicant desirous of registration with the TOPREC shall be required to fulfill the following conditions:
Complete the prescribed application form after paying an application fee of #10,000 for professionals, #5,000 for technologist and #3,000 for technicians or as may be specified by the council from time to time.
Submit along with the completed application form from the above stated, other requirement as may be prescribed in the respective forms or by the council from time to time
Sit for a prescribed one day written Professional Practice Examination and oral interview that both test practice currency and proficiency for council’s professional registration.
2. ELIGIBILITY FOR FULL REGISTRATION
OPTION 1
a) Qualification:
TOPREC recognised/accredited first or second degree, Professional (Postgraduate) Diploma in Urban and regional planning, city and Regional planning, Town and country planning, Urban Design, Environmental Planning.
b) Practical Experience:
Possession of not less than two(2) years of post qualification practical experience working in physical planning or planning related organization like Corporations, Utility Boards etc and directly involved in planning programmes and projects.
c) Thesis:
Submission and assessment of thesis of not less than 2,000 words to back-up applicant’s experience on a planning or planning related project in which applicant played an active role , such as in the preparation of Master plan, Local plans, Development control, Planning Scheme, Renewal and Rehabilitation Project etc.
d) Other Requirement:
The council may where necessary or expedient prescribe additional requirements.
OPTION 2
a) Qualification:
TOPREC recognised Higher National Diploma in any of the following:
Urban and regional planning, city and Regional planning, Town and country planning, Environmental Planning.
b) Practical Experience:
A practical experience of not less than four(4) years of post qualification practical experience working in physical planning or planning related TOPREC recognised organization and performing functions directly related to physical planning.
c) Written Examination:
Applicant will sit for and pass TOPREC approved Professional Qualifying Examination that will test knowledge of planning theories and application of planning knowledge.
d) Thesis:
A thesis of not less than 5,000 words highlighting practical experiences in the practice of planning covering planning fields like master planning, housing, renewal and rehabilitation, local planning etc.
OPTION 3
a) Qualification:
Holders of other qualifications who have acquired experience working intown planning organizations. Such qualifications include a good Honour degree in BGeography, Architecture, , Landscape Architecture and other qualification as may be approved by council.
b) Practical Experience:
Possession of not less than five(5) years of post qualification practical experience working in a recognised planning or planning related organization and performing functions directly related planning.
c) Written Examination:
Applicant will be required to sit for and pass TOPREC approved Professional Qualifying Examination that will test knowledge of planning theories, application of planning knowledge to the real world and grasp of designs.
d) Thesis:
Submission of a thesis of not less than 5,000 words highlighting practical experiences in the practice of planning covering planning fields like master planning, housing, renewal and rehabilitation, local planning etc.

can a graduate who just complete his NYSC sit for TOPREC examination?
ReplyDeletewhen u r thruh wif nysc, u need to wrk for a minimum of 2yrs which will give u opportunity to become an nitp full member. then u cn nw aplly for toprec.
DeleteIf your assignment as a "Corper" was Planning related, all you need is one more year of experience. You also need to be a member of NITP or at least have your application for corporate membership submitted before the conference on the second year of gaining experience.

I graduated with B.Sc(ED) Geography gained employment into town planning division in a local government in 2014 (making 5 years now) as a technical staff. am I qualify to write Toprec exam since i have 5 years experience in Town planning related work or run a post graduate course PGURP and later wait for 2 years before I can be able to write Toprec exam.
