Ajagun, Egbedi’ll shine in Turkey – Ex-Eagles player

Garba Lawal says the sky’s the limit for the Flying Eagles trio of Abdul Ajagun, Edafe Egbedi and Aminu Umar at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
Nigeria are drawn in Group B alongside Portugal, Cuba and South Korea, and Lawal is backing the Flying Eagles to reach the next round.
Speaking to our correspondent on the telephone during the week, the Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games gold medallist said Ajagun, Egbedi and Umar will be among the outstanding players at Turkey 2013.
“They are gifted players and I believe they will prove themselves at the World Cup,” the much-travelled former Super Eagles midfielder said.
“I watched them closely during the African Youth Championship in Algeria in March and they impressed me.
“I’m sure coach John Obuh has worked on their weaknesses. These boys will surprise many at the World Cup.”
Lawal, who represented Nigeria at the France ’98 and Korea/Japan 2002 World Cups, urged the players to work hard for promotion to the Olympic team.
“Their target should be the U-23 team after the World Cup in Turkey,” the versatile ex-Roda player said.
He said the Flying Eagles will be Turkey 2013 champions if they are consistent and determined to succeed.
“It’s difficult to say Nigeria will win the competition but if they are able to win their first three games, they have a chance.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Ovbokha Agboyi is confident the team can win the championship.
He said the Flying Eagles had learned from their mistakes at the African Youth Championship
